See a Problem?
This would not normally be my type of book but with one very good friend having suffered badly, both emotionally and financially, at the hands of a Thai girl and another having just embarked on a new life in Thailand to join his Thai lady who he has met on just five occasions previously, I thought I would see what the fuss was all about. And there is no doubt fuss it certainly is as Neil Hutchison lifts the lid on the bar girls and the many scams that they carry out on unsuspecting westerners. I should point out that the author tells us that the girls are all attached to a bar to which a 'bar fine' has to be paid when an attachment is made and the girl is obliged to leave her bar work for any length of time. The author also points out in his introduction that getting into the favour of the marks that they pick up is a business for these Thai ladies and he adds that inevitably those chosen as the mark fall for it.
There is no doubt that the Thai ladies are well schooled in who to pick out; the two instances that I mentioned in my first paragraph were both lonely, looking for love and vulnerable and both were picked out in exactly the same phoney way, in the words of the song, 'across a crowded room'. But both fell for the charm and the presumably the scam and both quickly believed that it was true love and that the Thai lady was very definitely honest and straightforward.
